嚙缺問于王(wang)倪,四問而四不知。嚙缺因(yin)躍(yue)而大喜,行以(yi)告蒲衣子。蒲衣子曰:“而乃今知之乎?有虞氏不及泰(tai)氏。有虞氏其(qi)猶藏(zang)仁以(yi)要人(ren)(ren),亦得(de)人(ren)(ren)矣,而未始(shi)(shi)出(chu)于非(fei)(fei)人(ren)(ren)。泰(tai)氏其(qi)臥徐徐,其(qi)覺于于。一(yi)以(yi)己(ji)(ji)為馬,一(yi)以(yi)己(ji)(ji)為牛。其(qi)知情信,其(qi)德甚真,而未始(shi)(shi)入(ru)于非(fei)(fei)人(ren)(ren)。”
肩(jian)吾見狂(kuang)接輿。狂(kuang)接輿曰:“日中始何以(yi)語女?”肩(jian)吾曰:“告我:君人者(zhe)以(yi)己出(chu)經式義度,人孰敢不聽而化諸!”狂(kuang)接輿曰:“是欺(qi)德也(ye)(ye)。其于治(zhi)天下也(ye)(ye),猶涉海鑿河而使蚊(wen)負山也(ye)(ye)。夫圣人之(zhi)(zhi)治(zhi)也(ye)(ye),治(zhi)外夫?正而后行,確乎能其事者(zhe)而已矣。且鳥高飛(fei)以(yi)避矰弋之(zhi)(zhi)害(hai),鼷鼠(shu)深穴乎神丘之(zhi)(zhi)下以(yi)避熏(xun)鑿之(zhi)(zhi)患(huan),而曾二蟲之(zhi)(zhi)無知?”
天(tian)根游于(yu)殷陽(yang),至蓼水(shui)之(zhi)(zhi)上,適遭無(wu)名(ming)人(ren)而問焉,曰(yue)(yue):“請問為天(tian)下(xia)。”無(wu)名(ming)人(ren)曰(yue)(yue):“去!汝(ru)(ru)(ru)鄙人(ren)也,何問之(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)豫也!予(yu)方將(jiang)與造物者(zhe)為人(ren),厭則(ze)又(you)乘(cheng)夫莽眇之(zhi)(zhi)鳥,以出(chu)六極之(zhi)(zhi)外,而游無(wu)何有之(zhi)(zhi)鄉,以處(chu)壙埌之(zhi)(zhi)野。汝(ru)(ru)(ru)又(you)何帛以治天(tian)下(xia)感予(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)心為?”又(you)復問,無(wu)名(ming)人(ren)曰(yue)(yue):“汝(ru)(ru)(ru)游心于(yu)淡,合氣于(yu)漠(mo),順(shun)物自然(ran)而無(wu)容私焉,而天(tian)下(xia)治矣。”
陽(yang)(yang)子(zi)(zi)居(ju)見老聃(dan)(dan),曰(yue):“有(you)人(ren)于此(ci),向疾強(qiang)梁,物(wu)徹疏明(ming)(ming),學道不倦,如是(shi)者(zhe),可比明(ming)(ming)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)乎?”老聃(dan)(dan)曰(yue):“是(shi)於圣人(ren)也,胥易技(ji)系,勞形怵心者(zhe)也。且(qie)也虎豹之(zhi)文來田,猨狙之(zhi)便執(zhi)嫠之(zhi)狗來藉。如是(shi)者(zhe),可比明(ming)(ming)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)乎?”陽(yang)(yang)子(zi)(zi)居(ju)蹴然(ran)曰(yue):“敢(gan)問明(ming)(ming)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)治。”老聃(dan)(dan)曰(yue):“明(ming)(ming)王(wang)(wang)(wang)(wang)之(zhi)治:功蓋天下而似不自己,化貸萬物(wu)而民弗恃。有(you)莫舉名(ming),使物(wu)自喜(xi)。立乎不測,而游于無有(you)者(zhe)也。”
鄭有神巫曰季咸,知人之死生、存亡、禍福、壽夭,期以歲月旬日若神。鄭人見之,皆棄而走。列子見之(zhi)而(er)心(xin)醉,歸,以(yi)(yi)告壺(hu)子,曰:“始(shi)吾以(yi)(yi)夫子之(zhi)道(dao)為(wei)至矣(yi)(yi),則又(you)有至焉者矣(yi)(yi)。”壺(hu)子曰:“吾與汝(ru)既其(qi)文,未既其(qi)實。而(er)固得(de)道(dao)與?眾雌而(er)無雄,而(er)又(you)奚(xi)卵焉!而(er)以(yi)(yi)道(dao)與世亢,必信,夫故使人得(de)而(er)相汝(ru)。嘗(chang)試與來,以(yi)(yi)予示之(zhi)。”
明(ming)(ming)日(ri),列(lie)(lie)子(zi)與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。出(chu)(chu)而(er)謂列(lie)(lie)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“嘻!子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)死(si)矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!弗活矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!不(bu)(bu)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)旬數矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!吾(wu)(wu)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)怪焉(yan),見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)濕(shi)灰焉(yan)。”列(lie)(lie)子(zi)入,泣涕沾襟以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)告壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“鄉吾(wu)(wu)示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)地文,萌(meng)乎不(bu)(bu)震不(bu)(bu)正,是(shi)殆見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)吾(wu)(wu)杜(du)(du)德機也。嘗又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)來(lai)。”明(ming)(ming)日(ri),又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。出(chu)(chu)而(er)謂列(lie)(lie)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“幸矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)遇(yu)我也,有(you)瘳矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!全(quan)然(ran)(ran)有(you)生(sheng)(sheng)矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!吾(wu)(wu)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)其(qi)杜(du)(du)權矣(yi)(yi)(yi)!”列(lie)(lie)子(zi)入,以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)告壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“鄉吾(wu)(wu)示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)天壤,名實不(bu)(bu)入,而(er)機發于踵。是(shi)殆見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)吾(wu)(wu)善(shan)者機也。嘗又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)來(lai)。”明(ming)(ming)日(ri),又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。出(chu)(chu)而(er)謂列(lie)(lie)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)先(xian)生(sheng)(sheng)不(bu)(bu)齊,吾(wu)(wu)無得而(er)相焉(yan)。試齊,且復(fu)相之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”列(lie)(lie)子(zi)入,以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)告壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“吾(wu)(wu)鄉示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)太沖莫勝,是(shi)殆見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)吾(wu)(wu)衡氣(qi)機也。鯢桓之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)審為(wei)(wei)淵(yuan),止水之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)審為(wei)(wei)淵(yuan),流(liu)水之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)審為(wei)(wei)淵(yuan)。淵(yuan)有(you)九名,此處(chu)三(san)焉(yan)。嘗又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)來(lai)。”明(ming)(ming)日(ri),又(you)(you)(you)與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)見(jian)(jian)(jian)(jian)壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)。立未(wei)定,自失而(er)走。壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“追(zhui)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)!”列(lie)(lie)子(zi)追(zhui)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)及(ji)。反,以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)報壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“已(yi)滅矣(yi)(yi)(yi),已(yi)失矣(yi)(yi)(yi),吾(wu)(wu)弗及(ji)已(yi)。”壺(hu)(hu)(hu)子(zi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“鄉吾(wu)(wu)示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)未(wei)始(shi)出(chu)(chu)吾(wu)(wu)宗(zong)。吾(wu)(wu)與(yu)(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)虛而(er)委蛇,不(bu)(bu)知其(qi)誰何,因以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)為(wei)(wei)弟靡(mi),因以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)為(wei)(wei)波流(liu),故(gu)逃(tao)也。”然(ran)(ran)后(hou)列(lie)(lie)子(zi)自以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)為(wei)(wei)未(wei)始(shi)學(xue)而(er)歸。三(san)年不(bu)(bu)出(chu)(chu),為(wei)(wei)其(qi)妻(qi)爨,食(shi)(shi)豕(shi)如(ru)食(shi)(shi)人,于事無與(yu)(yu)親。雕琢復(fu)樸,塊然(ran)(ran)獨以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)其(qi)形(xing)立。紛而(er)封哉,一(yi)以(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)是(shi)終。
無(wu)為(wei)名(ming)尸,無(wu)為(wei)謀府,無(wu)為(wei)事任,無(wu)為(wei)知主。體盡無(wu)窮(qiong),而游無(wu)朕。盡其所受(shou)乎天而無(wu)見得,亦虛而已!至人之用心若鏡,不(bu)(bu)將(jiang)不(bu)(bu)逆,應而不(bu)(bu)藏(zang),故能勝物而不(bu)(bu)傷。
南海(hai)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)帝(di)為(wei)儵北海(hai)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)帝(di)為(wei)忽(hu),中央之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)帝(di)為(wei)渾沌(dun)(dun)。儵與(yu)忽(hu)時相與(yu)遇于渾沌(dun)(dun)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)地,渾沌(dun)(dun)待之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)甚善。儵與(yu)忽(hu)謀報(bao)渾沌(dun)(dun)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)德(de),曰:“人(ren)皆有七竅(qiao)以(yi)視聽食息此獨無有,嘗試鑿(zao)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。”日鑿(zao)一竅(qiao),七日而渾沌(dun)(dun)死。
